Saturday on the South Coast

I don't get many days off, but when I do I try to take full advantage! Yesterday, one of my teammates took me on an adventure of a lifetime. We went from Reykjavik to Skogarfoss, to Dyrholey, to Reynistjara, Fjaroargliufur and Jokulsarlon and back. The total time of the trip was around 13 hours which was perfect but we left at 1130am. I would suggest leaving around 7-8am to make sure you get to the glacier lagoon (the last location mentioned) while it's still light out.

Personally, my favorite part of the day was going to the Rynistjara (the black sand beach) and Fjaroargliufur. Each year many tourists go to the black sand beach so I've seen photos and I was familiar with what it was going to look like. But when we walked up, I was still blown away. The contrast of the white foamy beach shore with the charcoal black sand was so majestic. Not to mention the large geometric caves and cliff like structures on the shore. Fjaroargliufur, was amazing for different reasons. Before I came to Iceland I did some research on where I would want to go and what I would try to see and this place was really under the radar. I think also because I had no expectations and had never seen this place, it was even more spectacular. it was a river that turned into a water fall, with water so blue and massive cliffs on either side covered in bright green moss. We walked up the river (about a 10-14 minute walk) up the river to the breathtaking views of the waterfall. Not one part of this walk wasn't scenic. With the cliffs and river flowing to the left and hilly grass plains that looked like they went on for miles on the right, everywhere I turned was absolutely incredible.

The constant theme of the day was feeling like I was in front of green screen. It felt like the images were too stunning to be real.

Check out these dope photos we took on the way. They're in order of location :)
